With every purchase of this book get a free DVD of Fred Petroskey talking about his paintings on display at the Dennos Museum, while supplies last.
The most recent 20 years has found Petroskey continuing the works he began in his hometown in the late '40s and early '50s capturing and preserving the images of his community, his classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends. More than that, his paintings have documented a disappearing way of life. within this collection of paintings are his visual statements. These portraits are personal, vibrant, and serve as a permanent record of this area's history.
Distinct characterization of his fellow villagers provided a great many of the paintings selected for the book. Most are noncommissioned works from his own collection. Without clients to please, Petroskey was free to explore new dimensions and the inner personalities of his subjects. His more subtle treatment of personality, reaching well beyond the obvious, has created lengthy discussion among those persons intimately familiar with his subjects.
